Black Adam Continues to Rule the Box Office
Black Adam has struggled to break box office records and is facing stiff competition from the upcoming blockbuster Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In addition to this, the film’s ban in China has hurt its box office collection. The film stars Noah Centineo, Pierce Brosnan, Sarah Shahi, and Quintessa Swindell. Despite this, the film is still supported by many sources.
Prey for the Devil is likely to finish in third place
Black Adam continues to rule the box office and is expected to hold onto its lead this weekend. The movie is a new wide release and is up against the Oscar contenders Tar and Till. Though Prey for the Devil will likely finish in third place, its prospects may improve as Halloween approaches.
Warner Bros.’ “Black Adam” holds on to its top spot in the box office for a third weekend with $18.5 million. The new superpower movie from DC Films has made $300 million worldwide in only three weekends, and cost $195 million to produce. It is expected to surpass the superhero hit “Shazam!” this year, though it is less likely to make a profit during its theatrical run.
Despite being a low-budget horror movie, Prey for the Devil is expected to carry over some of the momentum from other horror titles and should finish in the top three this weekend. However, Black Adam is expected to reclaim the number one spot with $30-31 million.
While Prey for the Devil is a PG-13 movie, it is unlikely to be able to outpace Smile this Halloween weekend. The film opened in 2,980 theaters and earned $2.8 million on Friday. The film is on track to make $7 million in its second weekend, which is near its Lionsgate’s projections. Meanwhile, Smile grossed $186 million worldwide despite its modest budget of $17 million.
Shazam! is likely to finish in fourth place
The film’s international box office has been impressive. It earned $201 million in international territories and totaled $352 million worldwide. Despite this, Black Adam’s domestic total is nowhere close to its international counterpart. While Black Adam has yet to open in Japan, its overseas performance has been solid. The film earned ninety percent of its total in China, Russia, and Ukraine. While the Chinese have been big fans of Dwayne Johnson, Black Adam isn’t getting a release in their country.
The character of Black Adam has been linked to the DC universe since 2014. Originally, he was slated to appear alongside Shazam! but the producers decided to give him his own film before blending him with Billy Batson. Johnson has said that the movie will mark the beginning of a new era for the DC Universe and give fans something new to look forward to.
This film’s opening weekend is likely to prove to be a test for the DCEU. While the superhero genre is growing rapidly, the DCEU is still relatively small. The film was expected to make $650 million worldwide and $295 million domestically, but it is unlikely to make that mark. The DCEU is also facing stiff competition.
Warner Bros. Discovery pushed the film’s release date to 2023 in order to accommodate “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” The film is now scheduled to hit theaters on Christmas Day, 2023.
Black Adam will overtake Shazam!
The DC Extended Universe spinoff “Black Adam” is launching with a solid overseas debut and is likely to overtake the previous DC superhero film Shazam! This weekend, “Black Adam” soared to the top of the box office, netting a whopping $73 million from 76 overseas markets. While this figure is still well below what was expected, it is still an impressive start for a film that cost $195 million. It’s unlikely, however, that it will turn a profit during its entire theatrical run.
While Black Adam remains unnamed in the movie, the character has been teased as the person the Wizard Shazam gave his powers to in ancient times. While the film is supposed to take place in present time, it will be filled with flashbacks of the character from thousands of years ago. This could mean that the movie will be based on a storyline that is related to Shazam and the Justice Society.
While Shazam and Black Adam share some similarities in their powers, there are some major differences between them. Black Adam was originally empowered by Egyptian gods, whereas Shazam obtained his powers from Greek gods. However, some comic book versions of the character also attribute Black Adam’s powers to Greek deities. Despite their similarities, Black Adam’s powers are much more impressive and powerful.
