After last year’s gala had to shift into a virtual event, the 2021 Met Gala is back (with public), a bit later than usual, having initially been postponed due to the global pandemic.
This year’s gala will be hosted by actor and recording artist Keke Palmer and comedian, writer and director Ilana Glazer.
Despite this year’s gala will be held intimate, it will still be full of the most important stars and celebrities of the moment.
With the official guest list yet to be confirmed, Vogue announced May 2021 Met Gala co-chairs to be Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilleish, Amanda Gorman and Naomi Osaka. They will be in charge of helping with the guest list, the decoration, the food and in general, the ambience of the night. Therefore, they are certainly expected to be at the red carpet.
The #MetGala is fast approaching on Monday, September 13th, and one of this year’s co-chairs has a history of owning the red carpet: Timothée Chalamet.
As every year, the guest list is kept secret for as long as possible. The intrigue of the unknown, causes everyone to speculate upon the celebrities attending. All of this year’s guesses circle towards one idea: digital stars and social media influencers. TikTok dancer Addisson Rae, as well as Youtube vlogger Emma Chamberlain are among the names to sound louder to attend next week’s event.
Other guest rumors abound with singer Camilla Cabello, sprinter Allyson Félix and British Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton are also believed to be assisting but it’s expected that Met Gala regulars such as Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian will reportedly be in attendance. Something which won’t surprise fans, who are used to seeing their chosen outfits year after year.
However, the Covid-19 situation is making it difficult for many foreign stars to attend due to travelling restrictions. This is the case with Kate Moss and Saoirse Ronan and multiple European designers who will most-likely be absent during the big day with the new date also clashing with the London Fashion Week.
The rescheduling of the event will also have an impact on several others from attending… Tom Brady, Gisele Bündchen, Ben Affleck and Sarah Jessica Parker are among the tied to professional commitments on the evening of 13 September.
